Who decides which agencies will receive United Way Cape Breton funding?

Each organization submits an application requesting to receive funding from United Way Cape Breton. These requests are reviewed in depth by a committee of community volunteers who determine whether the agency's application meets the United Way Cape Breton mission, and focus areas. The committee attempts to reach an ideal mix, with a balance that serves everyone - from the young to seniors - providing services ranging from enhancement of quality of life to crisis intervention.

How is the amount of money given to each agency decided?

A group of volunteers, referred to as a Community Investment Committee, invests time to understand the community environment, serviced client groups, each agency and their programs. After review of agency financial information and meeting with representatives of each agency, it develops recommendations that are forwarded for consideration by the Board of Directors of United Way Cape Breton.
